Carolina is a jewelry designer currently living in the Chilean Patagonia.
With an organic aesthetic inspired by nature, her work is strongly influenced by her Latin American heritage and her 6 year stay in Asia.
Taking a slow, artisanal approach, she uses an eclectic combination of recycled precious metals with mundane discarded wood fragments, making them become one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.
What are your life essentials--What do you carry with you at all time?
My handbag is a huge black hole and I am trying to work on that…
But basically, my wallet, keys, mobile, notebook (yes, I love to write things down!) and a nail file.
Who was your most previous text/call to and what about?
To my mom about her health.
Last meal you would eat?
Butter chicken with naan
Chicken cashew nut
And…sopaipillas! (a Chilean treat).
Most influential person in your life?
My very close knit and dysfunctional family.
Tried and true methods against creative block?
"Leave my workshop, lock the door and go out."
What are some inspiration things, designs, artists, music, sites that you find yourself re-visiting often?
Geometry in nature, cactus and succulent plants, Puerto Varas’ skyline, cloud shapes.
If you could have 3 people over for dinner, dead or alive, who would you invite?
Stephen Hawking, Frida Kahlo and Mario Vargas Llosa. With a mind-blowing sangria recipe I learnt.
Favorite cities? Why?
Colombo, Sri Lanka – remarkable energy, incredible food, wonderful and dear to my heart. My 1 ½ year stay there changed me.
Cartagena de Indias – A unique mixture of great environment, coffee smell, beautifully carved colonial wooden balconies, narrow streets and stunning bougainvillea.
I am currently obsessed with this locally brewed blueberry flavored beer.
Likes : Open minded people, my workshop, fireplaces, good food, humor, the ocean and my family (I feel like I should include them here most of the time)
Dislikes : Negativity, mosquito bites, pretentious people, ketchup and mayonnaise.
